Flower of the Week: Hawthorn

Fleshy Hawthorn (crataegus succulent) & Black Hawthorn (crataegus douglasii) are both plants native to Saskatchewan. They are relatives of the Rose (rosacea) family and share many of the same characteristics. The leaves, flowers and fruit have been used as medicine and food for centuries and are most often connected to the healing of the heart. They may also be used as a nervine or anti-inflammatory.
