Hello, I'm Jenni!
I'm an artist who recently moved back to Saskatoon after spending an extended time on the west coast in Vancouver. Most days you'll find me painting in my home studio while trying not to mix up my coffee with the paint water.
I work in both acrylics and watercolour, sometimes mixing the two. I create pieces that reflect the beauty of life, whether it be within nature or in human experience. I seek to find simplicity where there is chaos and truth amidst the unknown. I believe that beauty has a power to shape the way people think and react. And my hope is that the small amount of beauty that I put out will help to bring about that thought and reaction. Being an artist can be an emotional, tumultuous journey, but it's also so deeply satisfying to fulfill the need to create and share it with those around me.
A little history:
I grew up in small town Saskatchewan and will always hold a deep love for the open skies and plains that shaped me and my values. I moved from Saskatchewan to British Columbia to go to university in 2011. I proceeded (through a series of events) to meet and marry my now-husband which has kept me on the west coast. After graduating from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Diploma in Fine Art and a focus in painting in 2013, I have been on a journey to find where I am supposed to be, creatively speaking. I am most interested in botanicals and the influence that nature has on the everyday human experience. In my work you will find both impressionistic landscape paintings involving a lot of depth, feeling and emotion, as well as illustrated watercolour pieces that have a nostalgic influence.
I have a heart for story, imagination and seeking to nurture the beauty that exists in the small things. I love embroidered necklaces, pain au chocolate, wildflowers, children's storybooks and a sweetened latte. I hobby in photography, piano playing, crochet, weaving and embroidery.
My current work reflects the natural and wild landscapes of the prairies and west coast, with a focus on plants that hold healing properties, both physically and emotionally. I am interested in sharing the intricacy of wildcrafted plants that can be used for practical purposes. I hold a fascination with the longtime practices of herbalism and folk medicine and hope to share the beauty of these findings with others.
